[edit]No real content, just a list of links to nonexistent articles. —Tkinias 17:52, 29 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. We have Gates in Jerusalem's Old City Walls, Roman and Medieval London's Gates, and one in Japan, why not Cairo. I agree initial content is not very useful. Please see the text I have added to the first four gates to see how I think the article can be "fixed" (unless we get an Egyptologist with too much time on his/her hands, I doubt there will ever be enough material for each gate to have a separate article). - Keep. Good topic, and already more than a stub. No grounds for deletion. Andrewa 13:26, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Expanding scope of article to include walls
[edit]Would anyone object to moving this article to something like Fortifications of Cairo. We currently lack an article that focuses on the walls and fortifications of Cairo more generally, despite having multiple reviews of the topic (e.g. Fatimid architecture, Islamic Cairo, and here). At the same time, it seems redundant and inefficient to have separate "Walls of Cairo" and "Gates of Cairo" articles: the gates are part of the walls and the walls are important context to discuss for the gates. There is already enough material at Islamic Cairo#Walls; I've previously copied and adapted some of it to provide background here, so it would be easy to simply copy the remaining details and turn this into the main article for it.
I can go through a WP:RM if needed, but I don't think this would really be a controversial move, as the article would be nearly the same and simply contain some additional details. I'm leaving an explanation here, and if no one objects then I'll perform the move when I'm ready and complete the description. R Prazeres (talk) 03:29, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and effected these changes. Please let me know if there are any concerns. Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 22:29, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
